Tempus Fulget

The idea is to make a sundial that casts a rainbow instead of a shadow. The object on the left is a stylized dancer. Her head is of glass or some other material that will split the incoming light into the spectrum.
The shape of the "skull" is modified to that of a prism. The colors will cast in an arc across the landscape that varies with the time of day and season. Objects or plants can mark the passing day.
I haven't yet made this object. I've been told that a solid glass head wouldn't last the winter without cracking. It may be possible to blow glass into a hollow head and fill it with a liquid like alcohol, but it's uncertain how that will refract the light. There may be some acrylic substance that can mold to this shape, and perhaps it could make it through the changing temperatures. In any event, realizing this idea requires some research.
I would like to see it rise some 8' high, with a head in proportion.
